Because sequences from gorilla-specific herpesviruses have not been annotated, we performed a phylogenetic analysis of the amplicon from the gorilla swab sample using the UL30 genes from broadly representative isolates from the 3 herpesvirus subfamilies. Remarkably, several animal virus proteins known to act as IFN pathway antagonists have been shown to act as RSSs in a variety of cells, including insect, worm, and mammalian cells (8, 34). FIV is a lentivirus in domestic cats and similar to HIV-1 in many respects, including genomic organization, but is unable to infect humans (20). Several vaccine candidates are in different stages of development and most are for the prevention of HSV-2. Despite a vigorous immune response during acute infection, HSV-1 establishes latency in ganglionic sensory neurons, typically trigeminal ganglia (TG) or sacral dorsal root ganglia [16, 17]. Early murine studies used intranasal (i.n.) inoculation to reproduce human encephalitis, as the predominantly limbic distribution of HSV-1 lesions had suggested olfactory spread (14, 15). The accumulation of these peptides in the extracellular spaces gives rise to the amyloid plaques that are one of the main neuropathological features of AD. Long-term suppressive therapy can be considered in genital herpes relapsing more than 5 times per year. However, our recent studies showed that IFI16 acts as a nuclear sensor molecule for inflammasome activation during Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection (25). The domains on gC1 and gC2 that interact with C3b are well conserved in both glycoproteins (24).
